ARTIST STATEMENT

My work focuses on reconstructing a harmonious existential relationship in the context of time and imbuing the most ordinary events or objects with a metaphysical and ceremonial sense.  Through a variety of art practices using different media and forms, predominantly including drawing, video, and installation, I sculpt time, depict the inner sense of existence, explore the manifold layers of authentic self, shift the narrative past into an introspective present and anticipative future. My practice tends to evoke in the spectator a feeling of embodiment and immersion.

The objects I am interested in are often considered as the ordinary, subplots, ambiguity and everyday. However, there are hidden narratives with introspective strengths in them. Through combining the both western and oriental philosophy of existence, reinforcing the depth of the everyday, probing the variability of time, breaking the boundaries of space, and contributing the subtle emotion with poetic harmony, my work builds the existential relationship with a new condition out of normal. It causes the audience to reevaluate their perceptions of reality, to search something in the mind — a transformation of the physical into the psychological — as well as inspires them to reconsider their own existential relationship with the other things around.

Every project is immersed in a long process, and contains several pieces of artwork. They are independent but complement each other; they develop different possibilities from different viewpoints in a project.
