In The Shadows of s Subterranean River is a group show during our MFA course at Crypt Gallery. I am one of the curators in this exhibition. The main work we developed in advance is to investigate the gallery space, draw the plan, and make a tentative programme about the arrangement of space through the proposal submitted by each artist.

The overall of curatorial strategy is to maintain the original atmosphere of the gallery, letting each piece of work link to the surroundings, other works, and the lights.

We had two days to set up this exhibition and one day to reset. Despite the previous preparations for this show such as the  collection of everyone’s proposals and installed information, the actual curatorial work is busier beyond the imagination. We divided into several groups and each group was responsible for each piece of work. It is more effective and clearer at the temporary planning. Deeper discussions and resetting of work occurred frequently. We met the technical problems to hang some huge pieces. Fortunately, the general work was going well. All curators had enough patience and tried the best to get an anticipated result.

Our course leader helped us to make some adjustments before the exhibition. These adjustments were exactly the issues we hesitated. The reasons, on the one hand, is indeed lack experience of curation. On the other hand, there are some blind spots in the continuous work, it needs fresh ideas.
